Great News All Around!

Gary went for his follow-up with the oncologist on Tuesday and got a clean bill of health. Mark went to the same oncologist Wednesday and also got fantastic feedback on his recent blood tests. My father had a miraculous recovery through the summer and is just about back to normal. We celebrated my parents' 60th anniversary with a surprise family party at Pier 4 last Sunday. Scooter, our dog, was on the verge of death this summer with CHF but now has her own cardiologist, a daily regimen of pills and has fully recuperated. I have been suffering from a wicked depression for the past six months but have received much help and I'm definitely on the upswing. So, it is a period of good health and joy for the whole family!
Gary raised almost $8,000 for his PMC biking fundraiser in early August and successfully completed the 192 miles in two days just ten months after finishing up his treatments for Hodgkins Lymphoma. Thanks to all of you who so generously supported his efforts. Gary and Kristina are expecting a baby in mid-December so we are elated at the prospects of welcoming our first grandchild!
Mark will return to the oncologist in six weeks. He still has stage 4 cancer but it is in remission. There is a chance that the doctor will put him on a preventative chemo but the exact course of treatment has not been definitely determined. He will not have another scan until after the holidays. Meanwhile, he looks fantastic and enjoyed a busy summer on Cape Cod golfing, fishing, landscaping and catching up with some old friends and golf buddies. It was a dream come true for him.
As always, we appreciate your support throughout our trials and tribulations in the past few years. Mark noticed his first tumor in June of 2006 and finally got a definitive diagnosis on September 8, 2006 at which time we both retired. Gary became President and CEO of Cape Medical then was diagnosed in April of 2007 and completed treatments and got married last October. Mike and Steph moved back from CA in January of 2007 and got married in June of 2007 while both Gary and Mark were in treatment. They just moved into the beautiful new condo they bought in Weymouth. Kevin moved out west and has completed a year at Sierra Nevada and is on their ski team. He and his girlfriend of three years, Katie, have been traveling less this year and have finally gotten to spend some quality time together but, unfortunately, we rarely have opportunities to see them.
Our family has certainly discovered what "ups and downs" mean in the past few years. It seems that we are on a roller coaster. I will update you again when we hit our next peak or valley!
