Three Generations of Miraculous Men!

Mark is treatment-free for the summer!!! He got results of his Pt scan which didn't show any new cancerous cells so the doctor is granting his wish to enjoy summer on Cape Cod for the first time in a few years. He looks and feels better than he has in two years and has been putting in full days of gardening/landscaping, golfing and fishing and long nights cheering on the Celtics and Red Sox. He is elated and enjoying every minute. Unless something unexpected crops up, Mark won't go back to the oncologist until mid-September at which time we'll update you.
My father, Dick McBrine, collapsed at home a week ago and my sister, Jeanne, arrived before the EMT's, gave him CPR and revived him. He has been in intensive care at BI-Deaconess since. The entire family gathered at his bedside the day after the incident when his chances for survival appeared grim. However, he has shocked us and the hospital staff with his comeback!
In the past few days, the breathing tube was removed. He is sitting up, talking, quizzing everyone on their roots and flirting with the women on staff as usual! Each day he has regained more memory function. He is still in intensive care but neurologically it is very promising. They plan to insert a heart defribrilator to avoid future problems with his heart. However, at the moment, there are growing concerns about his kidney function. So, his kidney specialist will intervene before his heart problems can be addressed. He surely has a long road ahead but if you had witnessed the improvement in the past week, you would understand our optimism!
Thanks SO much to all who contributed to Gary's Pan-MA challenge fundraiser. We appreciate the generosity of those who have donated. Your contributions have been inspiring. For those who have not had a chance to support Gary's bike trek, I hope you'll read the following entry and consider donating to his efforts to help raise money for this worthy cause.
We are planning a jubilant summer and will report back towards the end of September on Mark's progress. We sincerely appreciate your support, kindness, prayers and friendship through the many health related hardships our family has experienced in the past two years. We are hoping to reunite with many of you to celebrate Mark's progress and revel in our joy this summer.
As always, your e-mails are appreciated: sheehan@cape.com
