Gary's sad news

On Wednesday, April 11, Gary was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma. We had a month to prepare ourselves after his fiance, Kristina, noticed a lump on his neck as they were embarking for vacation. He returned from vacation and started doctor's visits and tests March 5, the day we returned from Puerto Rico, and our suspicions were confirmed last week. We are extremely optimistic because this type of cancer has a very high recovery rate and we suspect he is at stage one because he does not exhibit any other symptoms. He will undergo more tests and get second opinions at Dana Farber in the next few weeks and we anticipate he will start treatments by mid-May. Meanwhile, at the end of April, he and his brothers and their many friends will still enjoy Mike's bachelor party in Las Vegas. Gary has started his own blog to keep everyone updated on his cancer. http://gmsheehan.blogspot.com/
Meanwhile, Mark has been feeling great, for the most part, since we returned from Puerto Rico. He has been "obsessed" with his gardening and landscaping and has had more energy than he has had in a year but now and then he's exhausted and must remain in bed for a day. He completed a month of sessions with the physical therapists and has recovered most of the range of motion in his arm. In fact, he even played golf with Gary and Mike a few weeks ago.
His next round of tests are this week and we will have results May 2. So, tune back in that week and we'll share Mark's results. Gary will regularly post updates on his blog concerning his own testing and treatments.
We met with our staff to make the announcement of Gary's cancer the day after his diagnosis. It was the second such meeting we've had in nine months! However, we are all very optimistic about Gary's prognosis and know that the super staff will rally behind Gary as will his wonderful group of close friends throughout the country.
