Seize The Day!

Our lives are filled with more optimism than they were during the last blog posting. X-rays show the tumor is smaller, the pneumonia is gone, the new antidepressants have lifted Mark's spirits and the IV for hydration has even helped to increase his BP which was extremely low all summer probably due to dehydration. Furthermore, he has gained enough energy to at least stay awake about 10 hours a day most days but, as expected during radiation, he is still fatigued.
The daily radiation and home IV treatments will end on Friday the 21st and nothing will happen until after Mark has a scan and sees Dr. Aviles again in mid October. Radiation treatments, at least on his upper body, are no longer an option so any further treaments will be chemo. Anyhow, there appears to be a small window of opportunity between treatments so we have decided to "SEIZE THE DAY" and go to CA to visit Kevin and see his new school and apartment in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area then work our way down the coast to San Diego and visit with Elly and Ginni. This venture is something we never could have dreamed of embarking on a month ago. We leave Friday, September 21 and return home 9 days later. This trip was our top priority and we are elated that we will be able to make it. We will take it slow and stay near Kevin for a few nights, move on to my favorite, Carmel, for a few nights, then two nights in Santa Barbara before staying with Elly in her beautiful home in Rancho Sante Fe.
We brought 46 staff members and significant others to see The Edwards Twins show last weekend. Mark was well enough to attend the fabulous show, everyone was glad to see him, thought he looked great and they all seemed to enjoy the incredible impresonations of famous stars. Can't believe it is now time to start planning the staff Christmas party! I'm already scouting out locations.
Well, we've come a LONG way in the past few weeks. I will report back in mid October after the next set of test results are in and tell you how our trip to CA went.
